The STST curriculum utilizes three different training methods to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to improve "Fix-It-Right-The-First-Time" performance. The curriculums are structured to provide as much training as possible within the dealership to minimize the investment by the dealer and the technician.
-
eLearning Training: eLearning (web-based) training courses are delivered in the dealership or at home via the internet. eLearning performs two critical functions:
- Serves as a "Gateway" to classroom training and ensures dealers do not waste capital by sending a technician to classroom training until they are ready. It also maximizes the learning in the classroom environment by ensuring all students are relatively equal in their competency level.
- Provides mental practice of complex diagnostic scenarios via simulation in virtual reality. This allows technicians to practice critical thinking skills prior to working on a customer's vehicle.
-
Webinar and On-Demand Webinar: Webinar is a distance learning method which allows student interaction with instructor during live broadcasts.
-
Classroom Training: Classroom training is the most traditional method of training. Embedded throughout each curriculum are classroom courses. Classroom is the only medium that provides "hands-on" skill training that is competency based. Visual and factual concepts are covered and applied in the classroom environment.
The typical structure for classroom training is as follows:
-
Demonstration of skills by the certified trainer.
-
Skill practice on vehicles by small groups of technicians.
-
Hands-on testing to ensure technicians have mastered the skills necessary to pass.
FCSD is expediting the process to achieve Ford Technician certification for a technician trained by another OEM. FAST provides a shorter path to Ford Service Technician Specialty Training (STST) Certification.
A Test-out alternative for most of our classroom courses will be available for senior technicians who feel they have mastered the skills and knowledge to exempt them from training. Test-outs will have a written exam and a hands-on competency test containing the same assessment as the classroom course.
Completion of the prerequisite training is required. Technicians will be allowed only one opportunity to pass the test-out. Successful completion of the Test-out will earn the technician credit for that course.
