   VCM, VMM Hardware & Usage

Hardware Overview
VCM
The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) communicates with all Ford vehicles via the 16-pin diagnostic link. The VCM has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase. The VCM II is the direct replacement for the VCM.
VCM II
The Vehicle Communication Module II (VCM II) communicates with all Ford/Lincoln vehicles via the 16-pin diagnostic link. The VCM II is the direct replacement for the VCM.
VMM
The Vehicle Measurement Module (VMM) handles electronic and transducer based measurements. The VMM connected to a laptop offers the following functionality:
  • Ignition System Test
  • Injector Flow Test
  • Fuel Pressure Test
  • Secondary Ignition
  • Fuel Leak-down Test
  • Current Probe Functionality
  • Oscilloscope
  • Digital Multi-Meter
  •

    Hardware Functionality
Use the functionality chart below to determine what hardware should be purchased. IDS is a modular system composed of software and hardware. Use your business needs and budget to determine what pieces are needed.

    Notes:

    • Current measurement and current probes are new for IDS
    • IDS uses a new, digital PVT, which has a built-in microprocessor
    • The CFR requires the VCM II, a pendant cable and a USB power cable to work with IDS
    • On certain vehicles that also require the use of a VMM, the IDS Fuel System Test/Relative Injector Flow Test requires a new optional diagnostic cable, called a "16-way adapter", Part No. 164-R9537

*Note: Starting in model year 2013, certain vehicles are equipped with Coded PATS vs. time delay feature. For these vehicles, if you are required to perform functions such as Keycode Erase/Reprogram and PCM Parameter Reset, this functionality is only available to automotive security professionals that are registered with the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) Vehicle Security Professionals Registry.
